Through my research this week I was able to discover
some very valuable information but what I found most intriguing his how HR used
to operate and how it is designed now and all the responsibilities that come
with the role. I have no idea how a company can run without an HR department. HR
like other departments is not seen as part of the operations end of the
business but that is such an understatement as they are strategically involved
in the business’s end goal. They do all the recruiting and staffing to find the
best employees for the company and add value by enabling business strategies to
their employees and the organization. HR work with leaders and management to
create value with employees and find a balance. By understanding the responsibilities
of HR will help me grow and develop in my role. I now know the steps to take on
how to be promoted and develop myself.
As a manager, working with HR would be very helpful
when trying to fill an empty position. HR will do the recruiting on the ideal candidate
that will spot the empty spot on the team. A trust is created with HR and the
manager to know what qualifications to look for in a potential candidate. By
working together on immediate and future staffing needs, HR and management
benefit from reduced cost per hire and turnover. In addition, the organization
benefits from appropriate succession planning and adequate staffing (Mayhew,
n.d.). After all both parties have a vested interest in ensuring the company
achieves success. HR and managers work together to find a balance for the
employees. Leadership training topics include how to provide employees with
constructive feedback and how to conduct fair and unbiased assessments of
employee performance. HR and managers should therefore work together to ensure
the organization maintains a consistent approach to performance management (Mayhew,
n.d.). Inconsistencies within an
organization’s performance management system negatively impact employee job
satisfaction, which is another reason HR and managers should work
collaboratively. Through working together, management becomes more
proficient in tactical human resources functions.
